Liquid Lipstick Series: Three Brands Worth Mentioning

We’ve finally come to the end of this long series. Probably one of the longest ones I’ve had on my blog but I have that many liquid lipsticks in my collection and just wanted to share my experience with you guys, especially since a few of you asked for reviews. I hope that these posts were informative enough and that you’re able to decide which of these lipsticks you would purchase.

There are a few other brands I haven’t mentioned and have decided to choose three to discuss in today’s post as I feel these are definitely worth mentioning. So without rambling on any further, let’s get to this.

Hean luxury long-lasting matte liquid lipstick – R200 (currently on sale at R169)

I purchased these lipsticks a while back from a SA online store call Glamore Cosmetics. They are the official distributors of Hean Cosmetics in South Africa. This is the first time I had heard of this brand and I found out that their products are made in Poland.

Description

Luxury Matte Liquid Lipstick by HEAN. It has a long-lasting, light formula with moisturizing woody pumpkin oil, bee wax and vitamin E. The product, despite its matte finish, does not dry lips. In addition, it dries quickly and leaves no uneven traces.

Packaging

The lipsticks come in a transparent tube where you’re able to see the colour of the actual lipstick. The doe foot applicator has a paddle shape and the tip looks slightly rounded. I’m not a big fan of the applicator as I prefer smaller more standard or teardrop shape applicators. I’m just fussy like that. You’re still able to achieve an even and precise lip but it might be a tad bit difficult with darker shades.

My experience with the lipsticks

This has a liquid formula that leans runnier. It, however, applies smoothly and the shades I have are both highly pigmented, so one thin layer is all you need for a fully opaque lip. The lipsticks dry pretty quickly and settle to a beautiful almost powder matte finish. They wear comfortable and pretty long lasting. You’ll find that they fade towards the 5-6 hour mark, but only really around the inner lip section. Since they’re a more liquidy formula they seem to move really quickly with oily foods and tend to flake a bit, so just keep that in mind.

Shades

Smoke Rubin – deep burgundy/violet shade

Purple Land – fuchsia with purple tones

Girlactik matte lip paint

I’m so thankful that I subscribed to Boxycharm because I get to try so many different brands and yes most aren’t easily accessible in South Africa but it’s still really exciting.

I received both liquid lipsticks in boxycharm boxes and have to say I really enjoy them.

Description

A color-rich creamy formula that’s weightless on the lips and delivers long-lasting coverage that’s transfer proof with no cracking or bleeding. Known as one of the “Original Liquid Lipsticks and BEST selling formula”, this richly pigmented lip paint will dry down within one minute to a beautiful non-drying matte color.

Packaging

The design of the outer box gives me vintage vibes and the simplicity of the slight frosted tube and gunmetal cap is appealing to me. It has a standard doe foot applicator which as stated above is what I prefer.

My experience with the lipsticks

The texture of this lipstick is pretty unique. It feels mousse-like but a slightly thinner consistency. These also have amazing pigmentation so all you need is one thin layer and you’re good to go. The one thing that really stands out to me is how incredibly lightweight they feel. It’s like you’re barely have anything on your lips. These also don’t crack or settle into fine lines, they feel comfortable on the lips and wear beautifully for 8 hours with minimal fading. They obviously move when you eat oily foods but fade evenly.

These are available on Musebeauty at R420 each. A bit steep for a liquid lipstick but these really are a stunning formula.

Shades

Ciate London Liquid Velvet Lipstick

I purchased a mini Ciate London lippie from a friend and I was really impressed by the formula so I added another mini and then just to compare whether the formula is consistent, I purchase a full size.

Description

Liquid Velvet™ Matte Lip Slick combines highly-pigmented, gorgeous matte, long-wearing lip color with hyaluronic acid for its intense lip-conditioning benefits so that lips appear fuller, while feeling more supple and smooth. The creamy, non-drying lip formula is infused with Ciaté London’s proprietary blend of moisturizing PlushPigment™, and it features high-performance pigments that glide on to lips for bold color and extreme hold. The innovative precision tip effortlessly lines and fills in lips for perfect application.”

Packaging

There’s honestly nothing fancy about this packaging. It comes in a clear tube, black screw on cap and the doe foot application has a pointy tip which should make application easy but I’ve had some issues. I’m not sure if this applicator just doesn’t work well with this formula but it’s a tad bit tricky to get a defined lip line, so I’d suggest going in with a lip liner.

My experience with the lipsticks

The formula feels creamy and contains hyaluronic acid which is why it feels so hydrating on the lips. It applies beautifully and doesn’t accentuate any dry patches or fine lines. They do initially transfer since it’s such a hydrating and velvet formula. I have noticed that it’s one of those lippies that dry throughout the day and becomes more transfer proof if that makes sense. So they’ll initially transfer but after a few hours of wear, they settle to a soft velvet finish that lasts for hours on end.

I swear I saw mini sets available on Foschini a while ago but it seems they don’t stock them anymore. I’ll have to look around to see who else have these available and I’ll be sure to update this post.

Shades

Pin up – mauvey medium plum shade

Head over heels – Bright Fuchsia Berry

Diva – classic deep red

Overall Thoughts

I had to mention these three brands. They’re different in formula and settle a little different but all feel really comfortable on the lips. The Hean and Girlactik are more for those who want a lipstick that will last and the Ciate London is perfect for those with dryer lips.

Below is the list of all the brands I’ve covered during this series. Let me know which of these you’re looking at purchasing?

  1. Jeffree Star velour liquid lipstick
  2. Lime crime Velvetines
  3. Mac cosmetics
  4. Ofra Cosmetics
  5. Kylie Cosmetics
  6. Tarte tarteist lip paint
  7. L’Oréal les chocolats

XoXo
