Wet n Wild Photo Focus Matte Setting Spray Review

Hey Lovelies
Day 3 and today I’m reviewing a drugstore setting spray. This is the only drugstore setting spray I own so I figured I’d share my thoughts on it. If you haven’t caught up with the previous 2 then please click HERE and HERE.
Wet n Wild has become my favourite drugstore brand. I’ve hardly been disappointed by their products and I’m always eager for new releases. This specific setting spray isn’t available in SA yet but based on interest shown in previous products and them being on board to make these available, it would be wise for them to consider providing this for us. #justsaying lol

My experience with the Wet n Wild matte setting spray

I’ve used their Natural finish setting spray (for dewy glowing skin) and enjoyed it so I had high hopes for this one. This product claims to give a stunning matte finish and it does exactly that. It isn’t an overly drying matte spray and my skin still looked healthy.

Disclaimer: I have oily skin and testing this in winter gives the spray a bit of an advantage, so bear in mind these may not perform the same in summer.

For control purposes, I decided to test all the sprays using the exact same face product because the different formulas in primers and foundations can alter the performance of the spray. I used the following products:

  1. Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF 50 – Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF 50+ is a daily sunscreen with a very high sun protection factor specifically formulated for oily and acne-prone facial skin
  2. Glamglow volcasmic matte glow moisturizer – Our first-of-its-kind matte glow mega moisturizer that does it all: hydrates, primes, and controls shine. VOLCASMIC™ delivers rich moisture to your skin with its advanced lightweight pressed water balm formula, leaving skin deeply hydrated yet non-shiny, with a sexy velvet finish.
  3. Cover Fx blurring primerA lightweight, soft focus primer that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines, and other imperfections creating a smooth canvas for a flawless foundation application.
  4. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear FoundationPro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long-wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on the skin—so you always look like you.

I tested each of the sprays for full days (usually about 8-10hours), I checked in at the 5-hour and 8-hour mark and if I’ve had it on for longer than 8 hours then I would check in before removing my makeup.
5-hour – I checked my makeup, specifically my problem areas and I didn’t have any oils coming through. My makeup however still looked good, no fading, creasing, cracking or foundation sinking into pores.
8-hour – Ok so I had the tiniest bit of oils peeking through between my eyebrows, the sides of my nose and a little on my chin. My skin looked a tad bit dewy but nothing crazy and my makeup still looked superb.
10-hour – I didn’t touch up and decided to wear my makeup a little longer just to see if there’d be a huge difference between the 8 and 10-hour mark. My t-zone looked more oily, to a point where I’d definitely have to touch up. My makeup however still looked flawless.

Final Thoughts

If you’re looking for a great affordable matte spray then I would definitely suggest you try this when it becomes available. It wears well and even though I had some oils coming through around the 8-hour mark, I still thought my makeup looked impeccable.
I think I’m gonna have to review this during the hotter seasons because I have a feeling I might be singing a different tune when it comes to the 8-hour and 10-hour mark. This is unfortunately how things go with oily girls like myself, so please just keep the disclaimer in mind.
Would you try this product out after reading my review? Are there other drugstore setting sprays you would suggest I try?
Simone over at “An Ordinary Gal” is reviewing the GLAMGLOW GLOWSETTER MAKEUP SETTING SPRAY and I know there’s so much hype over this brand, so I’m eager to hear what her experience was like with this spray.
