New Mac Cosmetics Prep & Prime Fix+ Matte Spray Review

Hey Guys!
Happy Monday! You guys have asked Simone over at “An Ordinary Gal” and I to do more collaborations so we’re giving you exactly what you want! This is another 5-day collab where we’ll each review 5 makeup setting/fixing sprays from our collections, so if you’re keen on reading our thoughts on these then stick around until Friday.
A friend of mine informed me that Mac Cosmetics was coming out with a Fix+ Matte Spray. You can only imagine how excited I was when I heard about this. I’ve used the original Fix+ for a few years and it’s one of those “multitasker” types of products and one I can’t live without. There are numerous ways one can use the original Mac Fix+ spray but it’s best known as a fixing spray so if you’ve applied too much powder, apply Fix+ to make your face look less powdery. It’s also great to use when you need to sheer out your foundation. I spray my beauty blender with it and just blend out my foundation if I feel I’ve applied too much. Lastly, this product is great if you want to make your eyeshadows pop.

Description

A lightweight mattifying spray that refreshes skin while instantly controlling shine and oil on the surface without disturbing makeup. The innovative formula contains powders, silica and other oil-absorbing agents to help set makeup, rebalance and mattify skin.
  • Instantly soothes and refreshes skin
  • Instantly mattifying
  • Instantly controls oil
  • Instantly reduces the appearance of pores
  • Sets makeup without hindering wear
  • For all skin types
  • Dermatologist tested
  • Ophthalmologist tested
  • Non-acnegenic
The Mac “Prep and Prime” fix+ matte can be used before applying makeup, as the name suggests. I haven’t tried using it before makeup as there are primers I prefer that create a smooth canvas for my makeup. Another thing to note is that this has a milky colour and needs a good shake to mix the ingredients perfectly together.

My experience with Mac Fix+ Matte

Disclaimer: I have oily skin and testing this in winter gives the spray a bit of an advantage, so bear in mind these may not perform the same in summer.

For control purposes, I decided to test all the sprays using the exact same face product because the different formulas in primers and foundations can alter the performance of the spray. I used the following products:

  1. Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF 50 – Eucerin Sun Gel-Creme Oil Control Dry Touch SPF 50+ is a daily sunscreen with a very high sun protection factor specifically formulated for oily and acne-prone facial skin
  2. Glamglow volcasmic matte glow moisturizer – Our first-of-its-kind matte glow mega moisturizer that does it all: hydrates, primes, and controls shine. VOLCASMIC™ delivers rich moisture to your skin with its advanced lightweight pressed water balm formula, leaving skin deeply hydrated yet non-shiny, with a sexy velvet finish.
  3. Cover Fx blurring primerA lightweight, soft focus primer that blurs the appearance of pores, fine lines, and other imperfections creating a smooth canvas for a flawless foundation application.
  4. Fenty Beauty Pro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear FoundationPro Filt’r Soft Matte Longwear Foundation gives skin an instantly smooth, pore-diffused, shine-free finish that easily builds to medium to full coverage. The oil-free formula is made with climate-adaptive technology that’s resistant to sweat and humidity, and won’t clog pores so that wherever you are, it’s going to work on your skin. Best of all, this long-wearing, light-as-air texture is undetectable on the skin—so you always look like you.

I tested each of the sprays for full days (usually about 8-10hours) and I checked in at the 5-hour and 8-hour mark and if I’ve had it on for longer than 8 hours then I would check in before removing my makeup.
5 hour – This is usually the time I can see some oils peeping through around my t-zone area. But I was amazed to see that I didn’t have any oils coming through. My makeup was still looking flawless and fresh. No caking, no cracking and no oils.
8 hour – During the winter seasons, when my skin isn’t as oily as it is during summer, I’d get oils seeping through on my forehead, around the sides of my nose and my chin by this time. I was yet again super impressed that I had NO OILS, absolutely NOTHING.
End of the day – I decided to wear my makeup a little longer to see how well it wears. It had been 10 hours and I was ready to remove my makeup. I could see a tiny bit of oil coming through between my eyebrows and a tiny bit on the sides of my nose but that was IT! My makeup still looked immaculate.

Final Thoughts

The Mac Fix+ Matte spray isn’t just a fixing spray. This bad boy sets the makeup, controls oils, creates a flawless finish and prolongs the wear. How amazing does that sound? It mattifies the skin but what I love about it is that it doesn’t leave the skin feeling dry and tight. I would say leaves the skin feeling like satin.
I would definitely recommend this product, especially to my oily peeps. It’s a great investment and one you’ll probably have a hard time going without.
I’m heading over to “An Ordinary Gal” to see which setting/fixing spray she’s reviewing today and her experience with it.
Stay tuned for tomorrow’s blog post because I’m reviewing a setting spray I received in one of my boxycharm boxes.
Toodles Stunners!
XoXo
