I know it’s been a while but I needed time to see to some wedding planning. I can’t believe we’re getting married in 5 months. It really is such an exciting time and I’m thankful for those who have shared in this excitement building up to our special day. I CAN’T WAIT TO BE MRS.JEFTHA!
Anyways, so let me not get carried away with all this wedding talk. Today’s blog post, as I’m sure you can already tell by the title is a review on a mini lipstick kit. My dearest fiance was kind enough to purchase this set along with a few other MAC goodies. Most of these were included in my Huge Blogiversary giveaway and the rest I will share with you guys in a separate haul blog post. He bought these from the Cosmetic company based in Atterbury when they had an up to 75% off sale and this set that usually retails for R595 was discounted to R150. How insane?
MAC Nutcracker sweet red lipstick set
This lipstick kit was part of the Nutcracker Sweet 2016 Holiday collection, so not by any means new but I’ve had my eye on a few of these items for some time now. The look of this whole collection is very unconventional and I think this is what got my attention the most.
The set of 4 mini lipsticks comes housed in a hard plastic drawer box with beautiful pink, red and gold hues. I really admire the design and attention to detail on each of the items included in this collection. What I love most is that you wouldn’t even need to wrap this if you had to gift it to someone. The packaging is a gift in itself. Lol.
Lipstick shades & Performance
I expected 4 different shades of red, seeing as this is the “Red” set and was quite surprised that they included a plum and burgundy colour. I’m not sure if I would’ve called this the red set. I love the selection of bright and bold lipsticks and already own 2 of this seeing as all 4 shades are part of the permanent range.
Shades included in the set:
- Lady Danger – is described as a Vivid bright coral-red in a matte finish. This lipstick applies smoothly, doesn’t tug at all and is super pigmented, so all you need is one swipe and you’re good to go.
- MAC Red – is described as a Vivid bright bluish-red in a satin finish. This is a classic red that will look good on everyone. If you’ve been wanting to try the Rubywoo shade but too scared because of how overly drying it can be, then this lipstick is for you. MAC’s satin finishes are super comfortable and don’t lack pigmentation at all. They don’t don’t dry down to a complete matte, hence the slight shine but they don’t lack pigment and are long wearing.
- Rebel – is described as a Midtonal cream plum in a satin finish. The first time I saw this lipstick, I thought it might be too dark for my skintone. Rebel looks lighter on my lips than in the tube. I’ve had the full size for a while now and I just don’t reach for it that often. I’m not sure why but I find that it doesn’t suit me that well or at least the way I had hoped it would.
- Diva – is described as an Intense reddish-burgundy in a matte finish. This lipstick is loved by so many and I can tell why. It’s the perfect subtle vampy shade and another one that will suit almost everyone. It definitely looks different on different skin tones but gorgeous nonetheless. I own the full size and love wearing it during the autumn and winter months. You can, however, wear it whenever suits you.
I absolutely love this set and think it’s the perfect gift for someone who loves bold colours. The lipsticks have that lovely vanilla scent that all MAC lipsticks have and the quality is on par with those in the permanent range. MAC’s matte and satin finishes are my favourites and this set includes 2 of each. I also really love the shade selection and even though I’m not overly fond of the Rebel shade, I’ll still keep it and try and wear it more often, perhaps I just need to warm up to it.
Do you own any of the items included in Nutcracker sweet collection or any of the lipstick shades mentioned above? Thoughts on the collection?
