LUSH Series – Cupcake and Brazened Honey Fresh Face Masks

Ladies Ladies Ladies
Spring is here and I’m literally jumping for joy! I’ve already packed away winter clothes (Ok, not all but some because we all know how unpredictable this weather can be) so I’m completely ready for the change. I know so many would agree that they just couldn’t wait for winter to pass, although, I must admit that it wasn’t an extremely cold winter.
But. OK! Enough about the weather and my excitement that Spring is finally here, let’s get to this review.

Some of you know that I’m currently doing a mini LUSH series where I share with you my thought on the products that I currently own and have been using for the past 6 weeks. This week is the last week AND I’ve saved the best for last. If you still need to catch up on the previous two then please click here and here.

LUSH – Cupcake Fresh Face Mask

First up we have this baby – “Cupcake”. Lush’s fresh face masks are preservative free and therefore have a shelf life of approximately 3 weeks and should be stored in a refrigerator during this time. I had only tried Lush’s mask of magnaminty in the past before receiving these few products and couldn’t wait to get my hands on more of their face masks. Cupcake is specifically for those of us with oily skin so I knew it would be perfect for my skin type.
LUSH’s description:
“Rhassoul mud, which is highly absorbent, works with cocoa powder to draw out all the dirt and impurities and give a deep cleanse. Fresh mint stimulates and tones the skin, whilst linseed and cocoa butter soften and moisturise. Smooth a generous layer of this mask onto your face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes.”

My experience with Cupcake

Texture and scent

The consistency of this mask is quite thick and paste like. I’ve noticed that when it’s been in the fridge that the consistency becomes a little stiffer (I guess this depends on how cold your fridge is set) so it doesn’t spread as easily. I find that warming it up between your fingers or wetting it ever so slightly gets it to that soft paste like consistency that makes it easier to spread. The scent is amazing and you definitely get an aroma of cocoa (like a  chocolate smell, Hmmmm) as well as peppermint oil. I think the scent alone adds more to the experience because let’s be serious, who doesn’t love the scent of cocoa and mint? (I know, I do). Some may find it a little too strong but I suppose it comes down to preference.
Ingredients
Rhassoul Mud,Linseed Infusion,Glycerine,Talc,Cocoa Powder,Fair Trade Organic Cocoa Butter,Fresh Mint,Sandalwood Oil,Spearmint Oil,Peppermint Oil,*Limonene,Perfume
Below are two ingredients that stood out for me

  • Cocoa Powder –  Cocoa powder is made from cocoa beans that are first roasted and then grounded to create cocoa. It is known for its high antioxidant properties that have many great benefits, including but not limited to protecting the skin from premature ageing as well as creating that youthful glow.
  • Peppermint oil – This oil helps balance natural oils so that means fewer clogged pores. It’s amazing for revitalizing the skin leaving it feeling cool and soothed.

How I use it:
So like I’ve mentioned above, I usually have these stored in my fridge and this specific mask becomes a little stiffer. I take about a heaped teaspoon and either warm it between my fingers or add a few drops of water to get it to a consistency that I find easier to work with. I apply it all over my face avoiding the sensitive eye area and leave it on for about 10 – 15 minutes. I then rinse with luke warm water and follow with my toner and moisturiser. I love this mask because you can see a noticeable difference after a few weeks of use. It does wonders for soaking up excess oil, leaving the skin feeling velvety smooth with a fresh glow. I prefer masks like these because they don’t leave the skin feeling dry. If you feel like you skin needs a “pick-me-up” then this is your go to mask.

LUSH – Brazened Honey Fresh Face Mask

I must be honest, I didn’t know what to expect from this mask. I was quite curious to what the little green herby looking leaves were and when I read the ingredient list I saw that it contains sage, rosemary, parsley, coriander, turmeric, cloves and ginger. Lol! I mean whats cooking?? Hahaha! This sounds more like a recipe for a delicious dish. I never knew all these herbs had so many great benefits for this skin. Read more to find out what I’ve discovered.
LUSH’s description:
“Wake up your skin with this fresh face mask containing fresh fennel, ginger root, parsley and coriander to detox and stimulate. We use a sage, rosemary and juniper-berry infusion with cardamom and clove bud oils for their antiseptic qualities, fresh lime juice to cleanse the skin and free range eggs, honey and almond oil to soothe and moisturise. Smooth a generous layer of this mask onto your face and leave for 10 to 15 minutes.”\

My experience with Brazened Honey

Texture and scent

The texture of this mask is also paste-like but it has a gritty feeling to it which I’m assuming is because of the herbs and the ground almond shells it contains. It also stiffens up a little once it’s been in the fridge for a while, so like the Cupcake mask, I warm it up between my fingers or add a few drops of water to get it to the softness I prefer. The scent is confusing and difficult to describe. You get a faint honey scent but because of all the herbs and spices it contains you can hardly smell the honey. Cardamom, clove and ginger are very strong scented ingredients so I honestly don’t just get one smell, it a mixture of these mentioned above. I, however, don’t mind the scent, it smells fresh, cooling and relaxing and just gives that feeling that you’re getting a spa treatment done.
Ingredients
Kaolin,Talc,Fresh Organic Lime Juice,Sage, Rosemary and Juniperberry Infusion,Honey,Glycerine,Fresh Fennel,Ground Almond Shells,Almond Oil,Bentonite Gel,Fresh Ginger Root,Fresh Organic Parsley,Fresh Organic Coriander,Ground Turmeri,Ground Cardamom,Clove Bud Oil,Ginger Oil,Vetivert Oil,Juniperberry Oil,*Benzyl Salicylate,*Eugenol,*Geraniol,*Benzyl Benzoate,*Linalool,Perfume
This mask consists of so many impressive ingredients so it was difficult to choose a few but these are the ones I was most curious about

  • Sage – This herb is rich in Vitamin A which supports the rejuvenations of skins cells. It also has an amazing ability to increase collagen.
  • Rosemary – I know rosemary has many health benefits so I was quite curious to find out what benefits it has for this skin. This herb contains a vast array of nutrients such as iron, calcium, vitamins and antioxidants. It amazing for treating acne because of its disinfecting and antiseptic properties. It’s also great as an anti ageing treatment because it contains powerful antioxidants.
  • Fresh Fennel – this plant that is loaded with antioxidants and therefore excellent for treating acne. It also soothes inflammation and skin irritation.
  • Almond oil – This is a powerful ingredient that has an endless list of skin benefits. It contains monounsaturated fatty acids, vitamin E, potassium, proteins, zinc, and a number of other vitamins and minerals. The one thing that really stands out for me is that it removes impurities and dead skin cells.

How I use it:
I take a generous amount and either warm it up between my fingers or add a few drops of water to get it to a smoother consistency. I apply a thin layer it all over my face and wait for 10-15 and then wash it off with luke warm water. I find that wetting my face and then slowly and gently rubbing the product until it dissolves works best for me. This mask is a great exfoliator and will leave the skin feeling cleansed and detoxified. What I love most is that immediate glow it gives to the skin.
I’ve enjoyed both these masks and would definitely repurchase them again. I know there are so many others that some of you ladies have suggested I try, so please stay tuned to my blog for more Lush product reviews.
Toodles Stunners!
