So today’s post is a little different because I’m doing another collaboration and this time I’ve teamed up with Aisha from Stardustandlipstick. She’s a beauty blogger and has been blogging for about a year now. She focuses mainly on beauty and makeup where she reviews products, shares some of her hauls and also does giveaways. I’ve been following her blog for some time now and I must admit that I look up to her because she’s so consistent. She posts at least 2-3 times a week and her posts are so detailed it’s impressive. I often wonder how she manages because it takes a lot of dedication.
So we’ve decided to review the Tarte palettes we own. I’ll review the Tarte Tartelette Amazonian Clay Matte palette and she’ll review the Tarte Tartelette In Bloom palette. So please click here to read her thoughts on the In Bloom palette.
“Welcome to the tarte family!
Before I started tarte out of my one bedroom apartment in 1999, I was a total beauty addict like you, but I quickly became frustrated when I couldn’t find pure, powerful cosmetics.Everything I found was full of unhealthy, icky stuff, and whether it was from a department store or one of the very few “healthy” makeup lines I could find, the packaging was so unglamorous that I hardly wanted to buy it let alone take it out of my purse in public!
So I set out to create a line that would prove that glamour can be good for you by pioneering the use of high-performance naturals™. Today tarte is a leader in healthy, eco-chic beauty, offering cruelty-free cosmetics infused with skinvigorating™ ingredients like superfruit and plant extracts, vitamins, minerals, essential oils and other naturally-derived ingredients. But it’s not just about what’s in our powerful formulas; it’s what’s not in them that really sets us apart! All of our products are formulated without parabens, mineral oil, phthalates, sodium lauryl sulfate, triclosan, synthetic fragrances and gluten, just to name a few. Ingredients are absolutely important to me, but so are formulas that perform. We call it tarte 12-hour power™, but you’ll just notice it lasts. Not to mention that we’ve got budgeproof, waterproof, sweatproof, SPF and formulas with truly compelling consumer panel claims.
But believe me we don’t just stop at the formulas – our chic, runway-inspired cases and compacts are more than just pretty packaging. We care about the environment, so we continue to support cooperatives in the Rainforest and develop sustainable components that can often be reused to help reduce environmental waste.
From our award-winning blushes and lip tints to breakthrough Amazonian clay and maracuja complexion products, we’re committed to delivering real results for real women™. I hope you enjoy your tarte purchase and remember: be green, be smart, be tarte!”
Tarte Tartlette Amazonian Clay Matte Palette
Tarte has been a brand I’ve had my eye on for so long. They are considered a high-end brand and you obviously pay quite buck for a high-end brand. If you read the “About Tarte” section above then you would understand why this brand stands out from the rest. I had to save up for a while to finally purchase one of their palettes and I chose this specific one because I was drawn to the matte eyeshadows. I own quite a few palettes but they’re all a mix of different finishes so when I saw that this palette consists of only matte eyeshadows, I knew that this would be my first Tarte palette.
The Tarte palette is housed in an extremely high-quality gold colour plastic case, the top has a stunning purple ombre effect and all the writing is in gold. I absolutely love this packaging because it feels extremely luxurious and the mirror inside is huge which is always a great feature. It feels quite slim and shuts closed securely so would be great for travelling. What I love most is that this brand cares about the environment and continues to support cooperatives in the Rainforest to develop renewable components that can often be reused to help dimish environmental waste.
Eyeshadows and Pigmentation
The Tarte Amazonian Clay Matte palette is arranged in three layers of four eyeshadows, twelve eyeshadows in total. Each row is supposed to be a complimentary set of shades that you could use to create a complete makeup look. These are just suggestions so you can obviously mix them however you choose to. I do however appreciate that they thought of this especially as a guide for beginners. I’m so happy that the shades are named, this just makes it easier for reference purposes. The names are believed to be inspired by confident and empowered ‘Tartelettes’ which I think is a fantastic message.
The shades in this palette are mainly neutral shades but there are a few cool and warm shades which really makes this palette so versatile.
Shades and a short description:
- Free spirit is creamy beige shade. I use this shade to set my eyeshadow primer as well as a browbone highlighter.
- Force of nature is a light pinkish brown shade that’s great to use all over the lid or as a transition shade.
- Dreamer is a brown that’s perfect as a crease shade or to deepen the outer v.
- Multi-tasker is a dark brown with reddish undertones that is perfect to use to darken the outer V or to use on the lower lash line to smoke it out.
- Caregiver is a cool pale pink shade that I use to lighten the inner corner of my eyes.
- Natural Beauty is a toned down mauvey shade that’s great as a transition shade.
- Best friend is a cool toned medium – dark purple that is perfect to use all over the eyelids to create a purple look.
- Bombshell is a blackened purple and quite intense so you’ll definitely have to go in with a light hand. It amazing for a deep smokey eye.
- Super mom is a light beige that is a little cooler than free spirit and another great eyeshadow to use to set your primer, to use all over the lid to brighten up your look or to highlight your browbone and inner corners.
- Wanderer is a light brown with warm undertones that is perfect to use all over the lids.
- Power player is a cool taupey brown shade that’s great to deepen the outer v.
- Fashionista is a deep black that’s insanely pigmented so don’t say I didn’t warn you.
I’m sure it’s quite clear that I absolutely love this palette. If you’ve been sitting on the fence on whether you should purchase it, please do yourself a great favour and do so. I guarantee that you won’t be disappointed.
The texture of these matte eyeshadows is unbelievably smooth. They are richly pigmented and apply effortlessly to create a seamless look. I wore it once without an eye primer just to test out how well it wears by itself and it only started fading after 9 hours or so. So the staying power of these is incredible.
What I can truly appreciate is that these eyeshadows are infused with ingredients such as Amazonian clay and vitamin E. How amazing does it feel to know that the products you’re using are good for your skin? They are also formulated without mineral oil, sodium or gluten and they are Paraben-free, sulfate-free and phthalate-free.
I purchased my palette from Laboutique.za on Instagram. They are an online store that sells authentic international makeup and their services are amazing. I’ve purchased from them a few times and can vouch for them.
